Field of Dreams Swap Meet

Let's make this Field of Dreams a free swap meet.

There are lots of folks looking to buy a project and many looking to sell. We have the space available, so let's make this a Tandem Wing swap meet.

A nice thing about purchasing a project here is that you will be able to ask more experienced builders what they think needs to be done with it to make it flyable.

Bring a project to sell! Come and take a project off someone else's hands.

If you might bring a full project, reply in the comments section of this blog to let others know about it.

One thing to make it a little easier is the Williamson County Airport is located just a couple of miles off of I-57, a major north/south route.

History of Field of Dreams

This roving fly-in has been around a long time. Back in the '80s the Quickie and Q-2 were some of the hottest kits out there. Two builders, Robert Herd and Jim Masal, didn't feel the now firmly defunct Quickie Aircraft Company (QAC) wasn't serving the needs of the builders so they formed the Quickie Builders Association (QBA).

A Quickie builders fly-in was the outgrowth of the QBA and if I recall, the first ones were held in Springfield, MO.

The Quickie fly-in, now called the Field of Dreams, has had a number of venues, most often in Kansas and Nebraska. Fast forward 25+ years later and we see the fly-in is still going.

This is the second year Sandy & I volunteered to host the event, but alas, the number of participants continues to diminish so this year I am extending the invitation to any tandem wing/canard aircraft.

The QAC went out of business around 1984, but not before they sold approximately 800 Quickie, Q-2 and Q-200 kits. The QBA filled in the gap for orphaned builders to provide knowledge and experience and the annual fly-in was a great way to meet and greet builders and flyers.

Next year, it's time for someone else to pick up the gauntlet.
